Rocío Mazuecos
Born in Mallorca with Andalusian roots, Rocío Mazuecos embarked on her artistic journey in Granada, where she studied Fine Arts and discovered a deep passion for illustration and engraving. After earning her degree, Rocío took her talents to Paris, honing her skills in illustration and comics at the prestigious CESAN school.
Fate soon guided Rocío back to the Mediterranean, leading her to Naples for three transformative years. There, she embraced and blended the diverse disciplines she had acquired, embarking on a path of pictorial creation while simultaneously working on editorial projects.
Rocío's next adventure took her to Turkey, but her stay was unexpectedly cut short by the health crisis, prompting her to settle in the charming medieval village of Fresnay sur Sarthe in France. It was here that Rocío established her studio, allowing her to fully immerse herself in painting and express the wealth of her experiences—both from the outside world and her inner reflections.
Travel has become the heartbeat of Rocío's creativity, drawing inspiration from ancient civilizations, archaeology, and the unique symbolism embedded in each culture. Her time living in countries like Italy, France, Turkey, and Spain has not only fueled her artistic vision but also enriched her practice. This influence resonates in the gestures of our ancestors, such as encaustic painting found on the walls of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Rocío's artwork is a captivating fusion of cultures and techniques, where one can find a harmonious interplay of Western oil painting methods alongside Eastern practices, like the use of rice paper, and ancient techniques such as encaustic. This rich blend creates both bridges and contrasts, reflecting the diverse tapestry of Rocío Mazuecos's artistic journey.
